From the minute a person is conceived
, his/her existence, survival and growth depend on the support of another person. When a child is born, this dependence continues. The theory of attachment revolves around the concept of healthy and effective dependency, which provides for happier and more successful relationships both in infancy and adulthood. While the theory of attachment began with the focus on infants and young children, the notion and research has expanded into adult attachment. Studies have shown that attachment work is the most effective approach in couples therapy. This workshop will give an introduction to important attachment principles that can be used in practice with both individuals and couples, and relationships as a whole.

Sheila Sayani, MA, LMFT, is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with practices in Encino and Calabasas. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from UC San Diego and went on to complete her Master’s at Pepperdine University. In her practice, Sheila specializes in working with attachment and relationship dynamics with individuals, families and couples.  Her passion for attachment started during her internship at the Child Development Institute in Woodland Hills, CA. Currently, Sheila works at First Attachments, a new infant, child and parenting center located in Encino, CA. There, Sheila heads a variety of educational groups incorporating the beneficial principles of attachment.  She is also an active public speaker, as well as serving as the Professional Development Events Coordinator at Pepperdine, where she organizes, hosts and often presents for the graduate psychology program.
