How do I sign up for a new membership?

  1. First, you must join the state organization, CAMFT, by clicking here.
  2. Next, click here to go to the “New Member Application” page (located in the “Members” menu).
  3. Select the desired membership level and click the “Next” button at the bottom right of the page.
  4. Enter your email and the Code as displayed (this is for security reasons).
  5. Click the “Next” button
  6. Complete the Member Application. If you do not want information to show in the directory, leave the field blank. However, we do require your name, email, phone and mailing address. Your mailing address will not show and you have the option of excluding your email or phone from the directory, see “How to hide your email or phone number in your public Directory profile” at the bottom or the page.
  7. Click “Yes” for “Show My Profile In Therapist Directory” if you want your profile to be displayed in the Therapist, Groups or Supervision Directories. If you don’t want to be shown, select “No”.
  8. The Short Description (199 characters max) is what appears in the initial list of therapists. The Short and the (longer) Description (2950 characters max), appear in your profile. The entry fields are small so it’s best to create the text in Word (or another application) and paste it into the field. Word also lets you check the number of characters (with spaces), go to the “Tools” menu and select “Word Count”. Note: Under “Areas of Emphasis”, please do not select more than 5 areas. Any selections after the first 5 will be removed (this is done for reasons of fairness to other therapists in the directory). Click HERE for more on why. Don’t forget to upload your picture; it makes a difference.
  9. Click “Next” at the very bottom right of the page.
  10. Review and confirm that the information is correct. Click the “Confirm and proceed with payment” button. If you would like to pay online, click the “Pay online” button to pay with your credit or debit card. If you would like to pay by check you can click on the invoice that was created, print it and mail it to LA-CAMFT with a check to the address on the invoice.
  11. You will receive emails confirming this transaction. Your new membership will be activated instantly if you paid with a credit or debit card, or when we receive your mailed check.

What is the difference between CAMFT and LA-CAMFT?

CAMFT is the state organization representing Marriage and Family Therapists. LA-CAMFT is the Los Angeles (local) chapter of CAMFT and is a separate organization which offers continuing education, networking opportunities and more personal contact with colleagues in your geographic area.

Operating funds for the two organizations are entirely separate. You can participate in many of our activities and workshops without being a member of LA-CAMFT, but to receive all the benefits of membership you will need to join LA-CAMFT.

What is the cost of joining?

We have multiple membership levels with varying fees. Click here to find the best membership level for you.

What are the benefits of joining?

LA-CAMFT offers opportunities to develop personal and professional relationships with other clinicians, to participate in peer supervision groups, to serve on any of our varied committees, and to learn important strategies for growing your practice. Our regular chapter meetings provide opportunities for CEUs through exciting presentations designed to meet the needs of the Angelino MFT. See more benefits here.

If I'm a pre-licensed MFT, how does membership benefit me?

We’ve carefully designed our chapter to cater particularly to the pre-licensed MFT through our 3000 Club. This group of dedicated professionals answers the needs of the pre-licensed MFT by hosting informational panels about preparing for the licensing exam, navigating the Department of Mental Health, and working professionally in Los Angeles. Opportunities for mentoring relationships are also a benefit provided by the 3000 Club. This group meets monthly to offer education and support to the up-and-coming therapists of LA-CAMFT. Why do you only have 5 areas of emphasis?

This is done in an attempt to keep the list focused on our top specialties and for reasons of fairness to clients and other therapists in the directory.

There are 77 "Areas of Emphasis" on the list and it is tempting to check all the areas we have interest and some expertise in.

Also, we are in a friendly competition with other therapist for clients. If one therapist checked 15 areas and another checked 3 (that are true areas of specialty), the one with 3 would be at a disadvantage. Also, the potential client would not be as well served by this.

So we have set a limit to 5 in an attempt to focus the list. Unfortunately the system does allow you to check more than 5 (something we hope to address). So in the mean time, we will be reviewing the profiles and removing any more than 5 entries.
