Private Practice, Agency, or Community Mental Health:
Which to Choose?

Aurora Kaye, AMFT
Anna Chen, AMFT, APCC
Maaliyah Harris, AMFT

What is the difference in working in private practice, an agency, or community mental health? Which would be the right fit for me? Many of us have asked these questions to ourselves, whether we're in school figuring out what job to get after graduation, an associate wanting to know what path we see ourselves going down, or licensed and thinking about a switch. In this three-person panel, a knowledgeable associate from each space will be present to share their experiences and answer your questions.

Aurora Kaye, AMFT, is a therapist currently working at Southern California Counseling Center (SCCC) as well as in private practice. At SCCC, Aurora works with a diverse community of kids, teens, adults, as well as groups. She co-facilitates groups covering topics of anger management, domestic violence, community healing, and mindfulness-based stress reduction through the lens of social justice.

Anna Chen, AMFT, APCC is an associate therapist currently specializing in OCD and Anxiety disorders as well as working with survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. She is passionate about self-compassion, authenticity, and living by one's values. As an introvert and recovering perfectionist, she knows the fear and discomfort that seem inexorably tied to networking, and has discovered the joys and opportunities behind being scared and doing it anyways. Anna graduated with an MA in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University and currently works at the California OCD and Anxiety Treatment Center.

Maaliyah Harris, AMFT, is a therapist for multiple programs within her agency providing services for a diverse caseload. She primarily works in an educational support services program working collaboratively with a team to support children and families on individualized education plans. She also provides support for DMH-funded outpatient clients and parents navigating the DCFS process aiming to reunify with their families. Her diverse caseload has called for a unique skillset where she aims to take a holistic approach to healing including meeting the client, no matter the circumstance, where they are at.
