Studies show that four out of ten Americans use some form of alternative medicine
every year and that those wrestling with mental health issues rely on these methods even more than the general population. Psychotherapists need to be at least as aware of these treatment options as their clients, many of whom don't report their use of these methods because they're concerned their treating professionals may not approve.
This presentation is
an introduction to these tools, their history, the treatment concepts that inform them and how they're used today. We'll look briefly at how psychotherapists can incorporate some of these methods into their work, when and how to refer, and how to build referral networks with alternative medical providers.
Methods we'll be looking at include:
Micronutrients and amino acids
Acupuncture and acupressure
Aromatherapy
Brainwave machines
Homeopathic flower essences
