The Evolving Couple – Introduction:
A Guide to Self-Awareness Through Intimacy

Dr. Steve Wolf

The Evolving Couple is a psychologically oriented, spiritually centered approach which recognizes the couple as an energetic field that exists like an invisible child and goes through predetermined stages of couple development which includes the possibility for transformation. By working with the dynamics between the psychological and the spiritual dimensions, the therapist working with the Evolving Couple functions as a catalyst to provide the necessary containment and “heat” that produces transformation in the couple, like heat transforms water into steam. The couple’s ability to deal with the inevitable challenges of the relationship evolves out of their shared commitment to internal growth.

At the end of this presentation:

  1. Participants will understand how the Protector/Saboteur first forms as a shield for painful primary emotions and later leads to self sabotage causing regret
  2. Participants will learn to use conscious breathing and mindful listening to lower arousal levels, clear the mind and develop the ability to witness previously unconscious thoughts, feelings and body sensations.

Dr. Steve Wolf is a Clinical Psychologist working with couples and individuals since 1986. He co-authored, Romancing the Shadow with Dr. Connie Zweig, developed “Taming Your Anger,” “Taming Your Anxiety,” “EQ 101: Building Blocks for Emotional Intelligence,” and CoupleZwork Workbooks. He produced Remedy for Rage, a documentary on the "Taming Your Anger" program, developed to reduce violence and increase emotional intelligence for at-risk youth.
