Gabrielle Kaufman, LPCC, BC-DMT
When words aren’t enough, movement can often be the key to unlocking memories, inviting self-expression, and beginning the process of healing. Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) has been used to powerfully transform lives using movement to "further the emotional, cognitive, physical and social integration of the individual." In this dynamic and experiential workshop participants will learn about visualization techniques, engage in body communication and interaction, and explore psychological metaphors in movement to enhance their current therapeutic skills and modalities. Ms. Kaufman will also discuss the field of dance/movement therapy, the therapeutic issues best supported by dance/movement therapy, and the mental health populations best suited for dance/movement treatment.
For over two decades, Gabrielle Kaufman, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and Board Certified Dance Movement Therapist, has been using dance movement therapy with a wide range of populations. Ms.Kaufman utilizes interventions that range from stillness and meditation to imagery, play and dance. She has found that by integrating the body in treatment, clients are able to reach their therapeutic goals more holistically and with greater insight.
