Finding Our Place in the Village: A Welcome from Your Membership Chair

Annyce Torres, AMFT - Membership Chair

Hello everyone!

I am honored to introduce myself as your Membership Chair and to welcome you into this incredible community of therapists, clinicians, and mental health professionals. Whether you are a seasoned clinician with years of experience, a newly licensed therapist finding your rhythm, or a student just beginning your journey I hope that like me, you feel like you have found your tribe.

One of the things I am really beginning to understand about our profession is that while our work is deeply personal, we were never meant to do it alone. Every day, we sit with clients through moments of vulnerability, uncertainty, grief, growth, and transformation. We hold space for others - yet we also need spaces where we can be supported, challenged, encouraged, and reminded that we are part of something bigger.

It's that sense of belonging to something bigger that we are striving to create here at LA-CAMFT.

It's not about having your name on a list. It’s about becoming part of a professional community where relationships matter. It’s about having colleagues to celebrate your successes with, consult with when cases feel challenging, exchange ideas with, and learn alongside as our field continues to evolve. And let's face it - with all the changes that are currently taking place in the world, it's more imperative than ever that we cleave to each other and the community that we have created here.

As members, we have access to valuable opportunities for professional development, continuing education, networking, mentorship, leadership growth, and community connection. LA-CAMFT provides opportunities to expand your clinical knowledge, stay engaged with current conversations in the field, and build relationships with other professionals who share a commitment to healing and helping.

For those who are newer to the profession, I especially want to extend an invitation: please do not wait until you feel “experienced enough” to get involved. I began my journey with LA-CAMFT while I was still a student and it's one of the smartest things I decided to do. Some of the most meaningful contributions come from fresh perspectives, curiosity, and the willingness to participate.

Your voice matters. Your ideas matter. Your presence matters.

For our longtime members, thank you for the wisdom, dedication, and leadership you bring to this community. Professional organizations are built on the generosity of members who volunteer their time, share their knowledge, welcome newcomers, and continue investing in the future of our profession.

As your Membership Chair, my hope is that every member feels connected—not only to an organization, but to a community. I encourage you to attend events, introduce yourself to colleagues, join a committee, participate in discussions, and discover the many ways you can make this community your own.

We often remind our clients that growth happens in relationship. The same is true for us. When we come together, we strengthen our profession, expand our support systems, and create a richer community for ourselves and those we serve.

I look forward to meeting you, hearing your stories, and building this community together. Thank you for being part of our organization. We are so glad you are here.

In community and with gratitude,

Annyce Torres M.A., AMFT
