Thoughts for the Year

Valerie “Billie” Klayman, MA, LMFT

As the year comes to a close, I am happy to report as CFO of the LA-CAMFT chapter, we had a fantastic year. The Board’s approval to upgrade our brand, website, Voices, and software has brought us a great return on our investment. We have had wonderful attendance at all our Network events and Special Interest Groups. Our checking and savings accounts are growing at a healthy pace. In January 2017, I will be providing you with a final year-end report and actual numbers.

Our approval by CAMFT as a CE provider meets the gold standard. We are able to help other organizations that want to offer CE’s, which provides our organization more visibility.

As an Existentialist and a Meaning Centered Therapist, this year has been such a joy for me as an Executive Board Member of
LA-CAMFT. I feel so blessed to have the support and mentoring of our president, Randi Gottlieb, and all the other Board Members. Our Administrator, Christina Bielfelt, has also been instrumental in helping me create a deeper meaning to my position as CFO for our Chapter.

As I reflect on our recent Appreciation Dinner in November, I was heartened by the joy and camaraderie of those who attended. I do not remember the last time I felt so at ease dancing in a public setting. I marveled at the organic coming together of people who understand the deeper meaning of what we do at LA-CAMFT.

As an Executive Board Member I found myself taking on responsibilities that I never imagined I was capable of, such as becoming the lead in our CE application process with CAMFT. I felt the Board allowed me to stretch and challenge myself, always with the knowledge that those around me had the confidence in my abilities. In addition, as part of the Sponsorship Committee, I have had the pleasure of working with Estelle Fisher, who is our Sponsorship Chair. Estelle has been our champion in successfully bringing in sponsors to our events. I love working with her as we continue to be creative in bringing sponsors who serve our community.

I am delighted to continue as your CFO in 2017, and also as a member of the Sponsorship Committee. I have made new friends over the year that continue to encourage and support me in being my authentic self. So, I am wishing all of you a very Happy Holiday and and a Happy New Year.
