Be of Service
July is here, half the year has passed. How is your practice? Are you interested in growing your business? If so, I recommend this simple slogan from the 12-Step programs- “When all else fails, be of service.”
When I began my private practice internship, my supervisor encouraged me to pursue volunteer opportunities as I way to market my practice and be of service. I am currently the co-chair of WAAT, the Women’s Association of Addiction Treatment, and a prior board member of GPALA, the Group Psychotherapy Association of Los Angeles. There are so many ways to volunteer, you might decide to serve on a board, help out at networking events, or write newsletter articles.
Having a job at a networking event makes me feel like I am truly part of the event. When I attend LA-CAMFT events I enjoy working on the registration team, and I am often the first person people meet when they walk in the door. By now you are probably wondering, what does this have to do with growing my business? I track all my referrals and have found that the best referrals come from therapists who I have met. The next time you attend a networking event, consider volunteering for a job and see what happens.
