The Expressive Arts Therapies special interest group provides educational opportunities for LA-CAMFT members, in hopes to make creative arts accessible to everyone. It is co-chaired by Lori Chaikin, LMFT, Psy.D., and ATR (Registered Art Therapist); and Hilary Kern, Registered Art Therapist (ATR), LMFT, and Certified Yoga Teacher. We know it is a tremendously valuable opportunity to highlight the importance and power of the creative process when used therapeutically. Our role is to create a fun and supportive forum for therapists from different therapeutic orientations to explore different expressive arts modalities to enhance both their professional and personal lives.
In September we hosted a workshop exploring Dance and Movement Therapy with Gabrielle Kaufman, MA, LPCC, BC-DMT, NCC. The workshop was titled “Metaphors in Movement.” This all-day event was an enlivening, inspiring, vibrant, and fun experience. Through this playful and informative process participants learned expressive techniques and movement-specific skills to bring to their practice.
We welcome everyone who might enjoy this artistic approach to therapy. Look for more announcements for the continuation of this special interest group.
