The Ins and Outs of Law & Ethics:
2020 Updates including Telemedicine

Presented by
Curt Widhalm, LMFT

Course Description:
All therapists in California need to be aware of the on-going and recent changes in the laws and ethical standards we must follow. This workshop is designed to educate clinicians in best practice laws and ethics regarding the practice of psychotherapy and will include current requirements for telehealth services. Topics covered include CA BBS 2020 updates, 2020 Legislation and CAMFT Ethics Code Updates. The purpose of the program is to help therapists be aware of their legal and ethical responsibilities to clients and the new security of platforms to use when providing telehealth services.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will summarize two changes to California regulations affecting licensees.
  2. Participants will discuss the update to California employment statutes and subsequent impact on client care in group and agency settings.
  3. Participants will be able to discuss the three tasks needed to be completed by therapists at the initiation of a telehealth relationship.
  4. Participants will identify three key updates to the 2019 CAMFT Code of Ethics regarding telehealth services.
