It was a perfect day for a hike on May 13, 2017. The temperature was 75 degrees, the sun was shining, and the air just ever so slightly blowing. What better reason would you need for a hike? Well, to meet other MFT’s of course! Sponsored by the 3000 Club, a special interest group for pre-licensed interns of LA-CAMFT, the Networking/Meet-up hike took place in Franklin Canyon Park with the purpose of meeting other therapists from the community. A hidden oasis located in the middle of Los Angeles’ Santa Monica Mountains, Franklin Canyon features a 3-acre lake, a turtle and duck pond, and over five miles of winding hiking trails.
The group gathered in the park around a picnic table at 10:30am and shortly thereafter headed out on an idyllic pathway into the canyon. The leisurely hike was the ideal opportunity to network and meet other therapists in an informal setting that was free of charge, and took advantage of the picturesque Los Angeles landscape. Community members joined from all different areas, including both pre-licensed and licensed therapists from LA-CAMFT as well as non-affiliated LA-CAMFT members.
Ending in just less than two hours — the time was well spent. We exchanged strategies around marketing and finding internships, discussed ideas for professional development and shared both professional and personal stories from our lives. Walking around the lake and soaking in the environment of Franklin Canyon was a phenomenal backdrop to our conversations. At the end of the hike the consensus was clear, the sentiment “we should do this more often” was expressed by all.
